Changes in our Storyboard

1) We decided to disregard the idea of a scene involving a dog behaving in an absurd manner due to the difficulties we faced when trying to provoke and influence the dog into acting in the way we wanted it to.

2) We had originally planned on doing a mid shot of one of our actors opening the fridge to see plenty of food and beverages in there and then when the fridge is revisited later on in the film opening by the second actor, there would be nothing in there and all the content that was in the fridge would have mysteriously disappeared. We decided to scrap this idea as it would be far too much hassle emptying the fridge and putting everything back in once the scene was over.
3) We decided against using a shot of a tap turning on and off, we filmed this scene, however when it came to the editing process we realised it could become too over-complicated if we included this as a form of 'paranormal activity' as the scenes of the kettle and radio turning on and off was enough evidence of there being a ghostly force present in the room.

Planning our Film Opening

AS Media Studies
Planning your Film Opening

1. I am working in a pair with Hannah McGoey
2. Our film opening belongs to the horror genre
3. Young people aged about 15-25
4. Our film is a thriller/horror, in this film a series of paranormal events will occur in order to engage and entertain the target audience. It will take place in an apartment and the opening scene will be of a quiet family dinner until they are interrupted by the sound of their dog barking at an empty space, indicating that something else is present.
5.
6. In the opening of our film we want to introduce the main character and make the audience aware that she is possessed.
7. The location for the opening will be in an apartment.

Preparing for our own title sequence

Preparing for our own Title Sequence

Audience: Our target audience will be teenagers and young adults, due to the material in the film it will be rated a 15 as the storyline which includes various different paranormal activities may not be appropriate for a younger audience.

Set: Our opening sequence is set in an apartment, it is a perfect location as it is a family setting and a large amount of paranormal activity can take place there, e.g: lights/kettles switching on and off, dogs barking at empty spaces, and more.

When/Where: We are filming in the apartment during the evening but using strong lighting to ensure the set is not too dark, the majority of the filming will take place in the living room and the kitchen.

Risk Assessment

Conducting a Risk Assessment is important so we know how to overcome any problems we may encounter during our filming, a Risk Assessment can also help us avoid and prevent any problems from happening in general.

  • We ensured that all of our actors were comfortable and felt safe with the the roles they were playing, we also made sure that their acting was not harming them or the environment we were in.
  • Before filming I ensured that all of the filming equipment was perfectly intact and not damaged whatsoever, I then put a fully charged battery in the camera and checked to see if it was functioning, I then proceeded to correctly attach it to the tripod and begin filming.
  • There are no specific weather requirements, although camera’s should not be operated in the rain. We had arrangements for the camera positioning if it did rain.

developing our film

STORYBOARDS

Before filming our film beginning we decided to change certain aspect of our film as we evaluated our story boards and we agreed that we should change some of the scenes to add tension. We decided to add more acting and less scenes of paranormal activity as we agrees would have been too much action and too much of our whole film idea in the first two minutes.

the british film council

In recent years the government has shut down a government funded film company called "The British Film Council." this was because they government felt that they weren't spending their money wisely and they were even misusing the money in some cases.

choosing a production company

Blumhouse Productions has become one of the premiere horror movie studios operating today. The entire business plan for Blumhouse is to make low budget movies with great scripts and ideas, cast name stars in the lead roles, and then watch the money flow in. They now have three movie franchises kicking up in their first three major attempts. Here is a look at the successful movie franchises from Blumhouse Productions.
We thought that the description of this production company fitted with the nature of our film perfectly with its genre being horror, and the budget being a low cost budget.

Music and Sound effects

music and sound effects

we chose a non copyright piece of music for our film opening as we used garageband to compose our music. our music is non diagetic until it comes to the kettle and the radio turning on and off the sound then become diagetic. for our garageband piece it is mainly piano, we chose this particular piece as it adds tension and a kind of mysterious feel to our film opening. it was hard matching the music to the scene but with the use of trial and error we managed to overcome this problem.
