Kill Bill Vol. 1 was directed by Quentin Tarantino in 2003, the beginning of the title sequence is just a plain black screen with the with the quote 'Revenge is a dish best served cold' this is a common proverb quoted in everyday conversation and literature, and sets the tone for the rest of the film informing the audience that revenge shall be a key theme. The sound of heavy breathing was the very first sound playing over the titles, there was no music at this point. The first shot we see is a high angle shot of a brides bloody face, we can still hear heavy breathing but can also hear footsteps of another person present, this heightens anticipation and due to the footsteps sounding almost rhythmical, the sound can be compared to that of a heart beating. The next shot is a tracking shot of someone's feet walking across wooden floorboards, who you then find out is Bill. The narrative is non-linear and Tarantino creates an enigma as you never see Bill's face throughout the duration of the film
